Why is boarding a shadow-fleet tanker legal?

Very important post here and the news. Bottom line, seizing the tanker is legal here is why:
“First: the USCG was involved. Coast Guard officers are federal law enforcement, and their authority travels with them wherever they’re embarked.
Second: under the “law of the sea” — UNCLOS — any stateless vessel can be stopped and boarded by any nation. No permission required. Now look at the ship’s identity. Marine Traffic showed it flying a Guyana flag, but that’s just self-reported AIS data. Go to the actual government registry database, Equasis.org, and you’ll see Guyana officially denies registering this ship. No real flag = stateless vessel. And stateless vessels have zero legal protections.”

China’s illegal, unethical & highly destructive fishing practices must stop before it’s too late. China’s bizarre food culture has pushed many many protected species to the verge of each. @supbrow @nthusharon @yeshuaformosa @MalayaIrredenta pic.twitter.com/GuAlKYLMde

This is just your daily reminder of the massively destructive Chinese fishing practices. This needs to stop.

The NGOs in Palestine cannot be trusted. Not only that, the entire NGO complex should be considered compromised.
Most Americans don’t realize it, but many of our highways follow routes far older than the country itself.
Originally corridors carved by geology, crafted by bison migrations, and turned into continental road systems by Indigenous nations.

This is such a good thread and if you have spent any time in the woods, you know this is true. Animals instinctively follow the terrain in the most efficient way. When I was in the Army, we did the same to an extent. You have to be careful because everyone wants to walk those trails. This thread and MoundLore in general should be reason enough to start an X account if you don’t already have one.

As Thomas Paine trudged through the frozen mud of New Jersey alongside Washington’s ragged, dwindling army, most of the men were counting the days until their enlistments ended so they could finally go home. The cause looked lost: defeats piled upon defeats,… pic.twitter.com/neSSkt72Za

Just a great story. The glory of perseverance when all seems lost. I wish people still wrote like this.
