Love is not democratic; she is not felt equally by those who do not know, and has a capacity for growth that exceeds quantification. This is a play on the C.S. Lewis quote below. We are ready for our family to be whole. And even though the shopping isn’t finished, we are ready to hug those necks that are separated by distance, but bridged by love.
Typically, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, but 2-4 get a handwritten napkin. But this week, with finals for the High School, everything is wonky. Some days they are in school, some days they get out early. Every day is different.

Quotes:
1. “Beauty is not democratic; she reveals herself more to the few than to the many, more to the persistent and disciplined seekers than to the careless. Virtue is not democratic; she is achieved by those who pursue her more hotly than most men. Truth is not democratic; she demands special talents and special industry in those to whom she gives her favors. Political democracy is doomed if it tries to extend its demand for equality into these higher spheres. Ethical, intellectual, or aesthetic democracy is death.” – C.S. Lewis, Democratic Education
2. “No creature ever loved liberty more honestly than the wild horse of the plains.” – J. Frank Dobie
3. “This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.” – Aslan in Chronicles of Narnia
4. “Never let the future disturb you, you will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason that arm you against the present.” – Marcus Aurelius
Bonus Quote: “If you’re waiting for someone to hand you some opportunity, you’re cooked. You need to just start building and let your life be your proof of concept until people start showing up and seeing what you bring“ – Old Hollow Tree on X

The Narnia books are deeply Christian. But they’re also a lesson on why BOTH children and adults need mythic stories.
When the Pevensie children grow up, Susan refuses to accept Narnia was real and gets lost in the material world:
