Lunch Box Quotes

Our first loss of the season. The Varsity girls lost a heartbreaker last night to the New Hanover Cougars, 7-6, in what could have been the worst conditions I have watched lacrosse played. With the temperature in the mid-40’s and a rain, driven by 30-mph gusts, that moved sideways from North to the South, the girls fought valiantly but came up a little short. Number 3 played well, but the team struggled to control the ball, and they could not overcome the Cougars’ strong first half. The boys were not really challenged in their 14-1 win, but that will not be the case this Saturday when they face off against Middlecreek, one of the top teams in the state. Tonight, it’s all-girls play as the Topsail Lady Pirates take the field against Pinecrest, an out-of-conference juggernaut. Meanwhile, the Topsail Youth Lacrosse Middle School Girls (Number 4) square off in a bonus match just down the street. That concludes today’s lacrosse report. Now back to your regularly scheduled scrolling.

As a reminder, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, but 2-4 get handwritten napkins.

3. “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much.”  – Theodore Roosevelt
