Lunch Box Quotes

Whew, that was a good weekend. Since we last met, Number 2 has played 2 games, started both, and looked like a beast out there. Playing great defense isn’t like great offense, which can be measured in assists or goals, but is instead measured in the plum and indigo of the bodies’ calligraphy: evidence of a battle waged between individuals and proof of something struck, something that gave way. The bruises are the secret diary on the palette of the defenseman, written by sticks and poles in shades that no eye could have invented, in an often overlooked battle of wills. You played well, proved that you have earned your spot, now it’s on to 3 very big, very important games this week. Number 3 only had one game and also played well, but this time at attack, where she scored her first goal of Varsity lacrosse! It was a good win where they were able to rest some players and let others play in positions not normally occupied. She also has two very important games this week. Conference play for both teams in games that will go a long way toward measuring the success of the season. Most importantly, this weekend we were able to spend time with the wife’s brother, our niece, and her boyfriend. Happy birthday! Can’t wait until the next trip, we miss you already.

As a reminder, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, but 2-4 get handwritten napkins.
