The boys won a big one last night. They beat the Croatan Cougars 15-14 in overtime in an absolute barn burner. Not that there isn’t some recency bias here, but this was certainly the most intense win since the early-season victory over Middle Creek. They had a mistake-filled first half that found them down by 3 goals, but they battled back to go up 2 with less than 2 minutes in the game. Gave up 2 goals in those final minutes, but still had a chance for a game-winner with 7 seconds in the game. After winning the faceoff in the four-minute sudden-death overtime, they had a chance to end it quickly, but a missed shot and a couple of very tense back-and-forths found the game still tied with just over a minute remaining. Then, they got a 3-on-2 breakaway, and with two very quick, very unselfish passes, boom! Game winner. It was absolutely thrilling. Nice win, boys! Get some rest, ’cause we have a split-team operations on Friday, with both the boys and girls facing off against Laney in matchups that will determine the conference.
As a reminder, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, and 2-4 get handwritten napkins.
