Lunch Box Quotes

This weekend, as part of Number 2’s birthday present, we got a chance to see Willie Nelson in concert. It was 100% worth it. You might be wondering why we would give a recently turned 17-year-old tickets to see Willie Nelson for his birthday? Well, Number 2 is different. Not in a bad way, he is just an ‘old soul’ that loves old country music. To say that he only loves old country would be an incomplete description of his musical tastes. It is actually quite broad, and his depth of knowledge of music and lyrics is actually quite impressive. But if I had to pick one genre of music for him, it would be old country. Anyway, back to the concert. Everything about the show was great. You might notice by looking at the cover image of this article that Willie Nelson has several concert dates here in NC, and one is actually right down the road in Wilmington…but that is not the one we were able to go to. For this show, we had to travel to Asheville because Number 2 has a lacrosse game the night he plays local. It was not a bad drive, and we were able to make a bonus pit stop and see Number 1 and Pancho on the trip! Anyway, everything about the show was great. From the venue to the stage setup, to the music itself, but just the ability to see a living legend. The part that was most striking was how close that band set up around Willie, who was seated at center stage. It gave a more intimate feel to the show that was not lost on the audience. Another was Willie himself. Seeing how his hands moved, the deep breaths, the cadence of his singing, and how he walked off stage. It reminded me of my mom and painted the story of a man who has spent the better portion of his 93 years entertaining others. It was impressive. The best part, however, was the hug that Number 2 gave us after the show to say thank you. For him, he said seeing Willie Nelson in concert was a dream come true, and as it turns out, it was a dream I didn’t even know I had.

As a reminder, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, and 2-4 get handwritten napkins.
