Well, the playoff run is over. It didn’t end quite like any of us expected, as the Topsail boys fell to the Crusaders of Cardinal Gibbons 6-15. Yes, the loss stings and the mistakes hurt, but that should not take away from how great a season they had. An overall record of 21-6 with a State Semi-Final finish is nothing to sneeze at. While Number 2 can be part of a playoff run next year, my hat truly goes off to the Seniors of this class. I have been with or around these boys for over 10 years, going all the way back to 8U rec league lacrosse. It has been quite the experience watching them grow into the incredible men they have become, and I am proud that my family and I played a role in seeing that happen. Whether it was coaching at the lower levels when only catching, throwing, playing time, and having fun mattered, to guest announcing, to working in the press box this year, we are going to miss this team. To the boys going on to play elsewhere, best of luck. To those who are hanging up their sticks for the final time, know that the sting of last night will fade, and look back with fondness on being part of an incredible run with an amazing group of young men. Remember the stories, tell the stories, and when you are able, pour yourselves into the next generation of little lacrosse warriors. Love you all.
Typically, Lunch Box Quotes are notes I include in the kids’ lunches every day. Number 1 gets a text, and 2-4 get handwritten napkins, but with the school year over, we will be searching for consistency and hopefully a routine. Today, all texts.
