Last night we watched 60 Minutes\u2019, Scott Pelley on the courage of the FDNY, 20 years after 9\/11<\/a>, it was powerful. The determination, bravery and legacy of those incredible firefighters. They are some of the heroes we should never forget. I reflected on these stories and many others this past weekend. Like everyone else, I remember exactly where I was that day; just completed morning PT while stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY serving in the infantry. I was set to PCS that week to Ft. Bragg to begin the Special Forces pipeline. I had already turned in my gear and was a day away from taking leave. I ended up wearing someone else\u2019s equipment and standing post not knowing what the future held. Eventually, I went on leave, to the Q-course and completed two tours in Iraq as an SF Medic, leaving relatively unscathed. I was a luck one. Task and Purpose tackles the transition from pre- to post 9\/11 with: How 9\/11 changed the nature of American war \u2014 and how it shaped those who fight it<\/a>. For a truly haunting take on the fall of Afghanistan, National Geographic has an excellent piece that covers the entire experience there in The end of the Afghanistan I knew<\/a>.
