Lots of Events and Podcasts today, so many that I don\u2019t know where to begin other than recommend The John Batchelor Show\u2019s interviews with Bill Roggio and Tom Joscelyn at the end of this post regarding Afghanistan. For a really deep dive on the terror threat in Afghanistan, head on over to the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point for their latest, Twenty Years After 9\/11: The Terror Threat from Afghanistan Post the Taliban Takeover<\/a>. There is so much there and it highlights the many challenges that we will face in combating terror there. To that end, War on the Rocks has a couple articles that you should check out with, Forward to the Past? Weigh Covert Options in Afghanistan Carefully<\/a> and The Subprime Strategy Crisis: Failed Strategic Assessment in Afghanistan<\/a>. The first, warns against the lure of covert action and the risks they could pose. The second article tackles \u201cthe two key elements to understanding how the military\u2019s continued implementation of a sub-optimal strategy in Afghanistan,\u201d <\/em>the nature of irregular warfare and the military’s offering of only positive assessments. Very few in the last 20 years had the courage to challenge the status quo. This may be the most important article that you read today. Taking a more positive tone, The Small Wars Journal is back for the second day in a row with, US Security Force Assistance is Much More than Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam<\/a>. The article highlights the continued importance of security force assistance and even though there have been high profiled failures, there are also many success stories. And for something different today, how about a podcast from The John Batchelor Show, Opportunity finds the Morning Dew of Mars.<\/a> The complicated history and prospect of liquid water on Mars.
