Since yesterday was Columbus Day, how about a little celebration of what the man accomplished? He sailed into the darkness, most likely following in the footsteps of those who never returned. That kind of courage is rare and should be celebrated. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The people who attack that courage hide behind committees, mobs, and modernity. It takes more courage to create than to destroy, more to explore than to live amongst the mob. Columbus created the map that we all walk on today. Be Christopher Columbus.
On Columbus Day, let’s honor the great men of history who dared to leave the familiar shores behind and sail into the unknown.
Men like Christopher Columbus and the explorers who followed him possessed a rare combination of courage, skill, faith, and an unquenchable spirit of adventure.
They faced mutiny, uncertainty, storms, and the very real possibility of never returning home, yet they pressed on.
Where would we be without that willingness to venture beyond the horizon?
The world we know was shaped by those who refused to stay safely on the shore.Happy Columbus Day!

Lunch Box Quotes are notes I usually include in the kids’ lunches. Since Number 1 is off in college and Number 2 is skipping lunch now (he’s trying to cut weight for lacrosse), they both get a text. Both 3 and 4 get handwritten notes on napkins.
