Competency = Cash, However, Cash does not = Competency: A Tale of Two Videos

Competency = Cash, However, Cash does not = Competency: A Tale of Two Videos

I’ve got two very different videos for you today. The first, the latest from Cappy Army, is quite good. It tells the story of  Vitor Bout, who went from military translator to international arms dealer. From the description:

Viktor Bout went from Soviet military translator to the world’s most infamous arms dealer, a U.S. prison cell, and eventually a prisoner swap for Brittney Griner. Now the “Merchant of Death” is back in Russia, appearing on major podcasts, building a political career, and entering parliament. This is the strange story of how Bout built his empire, got caught, and engineered an extraordinary political comeback.

The story is unbelievable, and the dude has balls that clank. Is this Putin’s eventual replacement? Perhaps, and honestly, I could see a future where he would be far better than Putin; from the sound of it, he has definitely read The Art of the Deal.

On the flip side, there is the Saudi Arabian Army, which continues to prove that you cannot buy competency. Some interesting and honestly quite concerning notes from the video.

  • The Houthis are a capable adversary and now have the ability to manufacture their own rockets and drones.
  • It’s partly the same story, in that the Houthis are using a combination of drones and rockets to overwhelm air defenses.
  • Part of the problem is that Saudi assets are widely dispersed, which makes defending them difficult.
  • And perhaps most concerning, the Houthis are openly talking about regime change in Saudi Arabia. I am no fan of Saudi Arabia, but yikes, the whole devil you know sort of thing…

Anyway, I recommend checking it out; it is very good and informative and definitely worth the viewing time.
