Watched The Man Who Knew, the first of FRONTLINE’s 9/11 documentaries, 9/11, 20 Years Later: 17 Essential Documentaries to Watch, was excellent and very frustrating. I’m looking forward to the next one. War on the Rocks has your must read of the day with, How the Taliban Exploited Afghanistan’s Human Geography. Understanding the battles pace and a having a unified effort were key to their victory. Not covered was the U.S. misunderstanding of the human terrain there…I’m sure there will be volumes published on that. Afghanistan still rules the day and you can get all of your live updates from The New York Times at, Afghanistan Live Updates: Pentagon Says Working With Taliban Against ISIS-K Is ‘Possible’. For something less depressing, if you consider the mysterious death of 9 Russian hikers in the Ural Mountains as less depressing check out: What Happened on Dyatlov Pass? ‘Dead Mountain’ Reveals All from The Moscow Times. The kids and I have watched several documentaries on this and I am definitely looking forward to the miniseries. And for something completely different, how about Interesting Engineering’s, Mars Is Safe for Humans, But Only for Four-Year Missions or Popular Mechanics, The 40 Best Pieces of Outdoor Gear in 2021. All of this and more in Today’s Daily Dump.
